Big Love by Charles Mee

Minor Theater

Inspired by what some believe to be the earliest
surviving play of the western world, The Suppliant
Women, Charles L. Mee’s Big Love is a zany rehash
of the ancient story where 50 sisters flee arranged
marriages to their 50 cousins. The sisters, who origi-
nally functioned as a chorus, are here redered as
three distinct voices: the militant Thyona, the roman-
tic Olympia, and the conflicted Lydia paint a startling
picture of the relations of men and women, and the
nature of love, in our time. This is a transcendent
theatrical journey full of joy, sadness, rage, humor
and wisdom. Directed by Professor Craig Latrell.
