Africa to Appalachia Project

Bluegrass musician Jayme Stone journeyed to
West Africa in search of the ancestors of the banjo.
His fieldwork became the album Africa to Appala-
chia, which won a 2009 Juno Award for Best
World Music Album of the Year. He comes to
Hamilton with famed kora player Yacouba Sissoko
and a bluegrass band for a performance that
explores the history and culture that joins Africa
and Appalachia.

Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra returns
to Hamilton College for a program that features
guest conductor Justin Brown. Soprano Twyla
Robinson performs Four Last Songs for voice
and orchestra by Richard Strauss. The program
also includes Strauss's Suite from Der Rosenkava-
lier and selections from Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette.

Aaron Parks Jazz Quartet

Called a "New Visionary" by JazzTimes magazine,
composer and pianist Aaron Parks represents
a new generation of jazz musicians. Parks and
his band explore the common ground among
influences ranging from modern progressive jazz
to indie rock and hip-hop.

Nationally acclaimed baritone Timothy LeFebvre
presents a recital of art songs and arias.
LeFebvre's rich baritone voice and commanding
stage presence make him a favorite soloist with
such presenters as Pittsburgh Symphony,
Minnesota Symphony, Sarasota Opera, and San
Francisco Opera.

Orion String Quartet
with Peter Serkin, piano

More than 20 years after its inception, the Orion
String Quartet is one of the most sought-after
ensembles in the country. This program includes
selections from Bach's The Art of the Fugue,
Kirchner's String Quartet No. 4, and Brahms's
Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 with pianist
Peter Serkin.
